I've come across this verse before, but it never ceases to amaze me: "Heal me, Lord, for I have sinned against you." Psalm 41:4. It's as if I punched a doctor in the face and broke her nose and then turned to her and said, "I'm very sorry about your nose. Also, I seem to have damaged my knuckles in the fight. Could you stitch them up for me?"
Our sin is ultimately a slap in God's face. And yet it wounds us in the process. And God is the only one who can heal our wounds. All I can hope is that I have the humility of the psalmist to recognize my own sin, and the boldness to approach God and ask for healing.

I think about this often.. God is so loving and patient with us that when we sin we are hurting Him so deeply yet He forgives us...In my first confession my Priest told me to picture Jesus standing before me, white robes glowing with open arms and a loving smile I however am throwing muddy rocks at Him.. my sin is flying at Him yet He does not close His arms or stop His smile, He reaches out to embrace me. Wow what a God we have. I am but a poor sinner and try everyday to be better but when my human nature gets the best of me and I am wounded from my sin I am so overjoyed to be able to go to my Lord and ask pardon for my sins and feel the healing power of His absolution.
Thank you for this! I really appreciate the images...
